 COST

  • Event admission: $239 (purchased online here)
  • Materials/Kit Fee:  $20-$25 (payable upon arrival at Sunny Sewing. We will let you know exact amount prior to the event.)

***WORKSHOP HIGHLIGHTS***

INTRODUCTION
This 1-day workshop is a wonderful hands-on sewing opportunity to take your bag-making skills to the next level. Each participant will have the opportunity to experience sewing with an industrial walking-foot sewing machines.  Industrial machines are being provided for your use during the workshop by our main sponsor Sunny Sewing MachinesMoreover the room will be equipped with other professional bag-making tools and supplies.  Limited to 12 people per workshop date.  Don't miss out as the prior workshop sold out quickly.

The Skill Level is Intermediate: The bag project we will be sewing is the Dorothy Double-Duty Bowler Bag designed by Lauren Mormino.  This bag and class is considered lower-intermediated to solid intermediate. It is not necessary to have sewn/used an industrial machine before. However you must have sewn a bag before and be able to follow along at this appropriate level.

 

AGENDA

I: Intro to Industrial Machines / The Machine You'll Be Using

An overview of the machines you'll be using will be covered along with how to use them. Come away with a practical understanding of the key features, differences, and benefits for the various machines. If you've never used an industrial before, don't worry -- this is a great opportunity and we'll show you how.

II: Intermediate Bag-Making Project:
    Pattern:  Dorothy Double-Duty Bowler by Lauren Mormino

Via instruction, demonstration and your hands-on sewing, Lauren will walk you through this exciting new pattern created for this workshop.   Together you will be making this medium sized bowler style bag that pulls double-duty as a back pack.  

While making this project, Lauren will speak to the different types of vinyl that can be used, along with the necessary hardware.

III. Introduction to Using Leather For Bags

Via show’n tell and a few quick machine demos, Anne will show you how to use a Bell Skiving Machine and a Cylinder Arm machine and their benefits for bag-making.  We’ll also share some basic information on what you need to know to get started if you want to try leather for bags — different types of leather, the tools to start, and a few tips to open up new possibilities. Come away with an understanding of whether you want to pursue bag-making with leather even if only for a strap or zipper overlay. Time-Permitting, you may be able to try out using these machines yourself.

MATERIALS

  • Bag Fabric (Exterior/Lining): You will be responsible for purchasing your own fabric and bringing it all pre-cut materials to the worksho
  • Interfacing: Workshop will provide any necessary interfacing to complete the project
  • Project Hardware:  Workshop will provide the necessary hardware to complete the project
  • Zipper Tape & Pulls:  Participant is responsible for bringing their own zipper tape to complete the project. However if you choose to order/pre-pay for tape from Lauren Mormino, she will bring it to the workshop to save you on shipping.
  • Thread:  The workshop will be providing you with a cone of industrial Bonded Nylon T70 thread at no charge. You will be able to choose a color from Sunny Sewing inventory, and it will be available in the room on the day of your workshop. Details will follow after ticket is purchased. 

TOOLS AND SUPPLIES

  • Participant must bring their own basic tools supplies. A list will be provided.
  • Workshop Room Set Up For Participant Use: includes Heat-Press/Iron station,  Cutting station, Hardware Installation station with rivet presses/dies sets, etc.

Lodging - Aloft Hotel Euless
Responsible: You Reserve/Pay Hotel Directly 
The workshop has arranged for a special discounted rate of $129. You will receive a group booking link once your reservation is confirmed. The Aloft hotel that is conveniently located  6 miles from the DFW Airport.
